Brain Teaser Game/Activity
This is a fun game/activity using rebus puzzles. A rebus puzzle is a kind of word puzzle which uses or arranges a combination of pictures, symbols, numbers and letters in a way that the combinations represent words or parts of words; for example: 2222222 DAY = Tuesday, or ME QUIT = QUIT FOLLOWING ME . I use this activity as a game. I split up my students into 3 or 4 teams of 4 students each and then after presenting them with a rebus puzzle from the ppt, I allow the teams 30 secs to 1 minute to brainstorm possible solutions to the puzzle. When times up, each team writes their possible answers on a small hand held whiteboard and when I say go they all hold up their answers. The team that correctly guesses the solution gets ten points. At the end of the game the team with the most points wins a small prize. Basically this is a fun way to wake up your students´ "English thinking Brain" by getting them to creatively and imaginatively think about word and letters and symbols and how their different combinations can create actual words or phrases In English of course.
