Pirates and Sea Creatures (and game)
If your students might be interested in Pirates and Sea Creatures, (and who wouldn´t be?) this is a great Powerpoint to motivate them into learning sea vocabulary. I use this to pre-teach for a game. While the presentation is suitable for up to 6th grade, I would only use the game for K-3rd. First, teach the vocabulary on the slides. For each slide, you can teach singular, plural forms, and practice "How many ____?"
After the vocab, play the Pirates! game (best when you move desks to make some space to move around. When you say "Pirates!" students stand on one leg, make their index finger into a hook and shout "Arrgh!" When you say "crabs" students walk around backwards on their hands and feet. When you say "Jellyfish" students wiggle their bodies like a jellyfish. "Sharks!" - Students hug the nearest classmate and say "Help!" Say "All aboard!" - Students all gather in the center of the room.
In between each action, you can say "swim" to allow students to move around. This is a very fun game, and you can add any number of variations to make it more complex or simpler, or allow students to be eliminated from the game (I like to keep everyone playing, personally).
