Phonics: The "Magic E" or "Silent E"
Use this Powerpoint to introduce the concept of Magic "E", also known as the silent E.
I teach the class that it is a "trick", which somehow draws their interest more than just the "silent e". I usually start with bringing up two students, naming the first a short vowel, the second a consonant (a-t). Then I say I´m the magic E, I come along behind the consanant and simulate kicking around the consonant to kick the short vowel (ate), he yells out his name! "A!!!"
But I prefer the whispering "psst, what´s your name?" trick more. Two approaches, take which you like.
