6 Confusing Verbs
This powerpoint presents 6 confusing verbs: sit & set / raise & rise / lay & lie. You will find pictures for illustrating each verb along with a table showing the different forms of each pair.
At the end of the presentation, you can ask students several instructions using these verbs and check if they can distinguish each verb: Raise your left hand (ask students how they spell it); Sit on the floor; Lay your books on your friend´s desk... and so on. You can also mention that the difference between each verb in each pair that one doesn´t take an object while the other does: sit doesn´t take while set takes; raise takes an object, rise doesn´t; lay takes while lie doesn´t.
