Whatīs your sign? Horoscopes, Fates and the Dating Game (Various Activities)
A fun filled comprehensive lesson that can last for hours - includes opportunities for speaking, listening, writing, reading and mini-grammar lessons. As a warmup, students discuss their understanding and opinion of destiny (defined). Next, they survey each other on related Y/N questions about destiny, horoscopes, superstitions, etc. These activities lead up to a research opportunity (on the computer or with materials printed out by the teacher) about their own zodiac sign and their opinion about how their sign and signīs love compatibility defines them. In activities that follow, students describe themselves and their idea of a good partner and write a personal ad (real or make-believe.) Finally, they read each otherīs ads anonymously and must respond to one. As extension activities, included are ideas that build up to the simulation of reality shows from the past: Love Connection and The Dating Game, to be acted out in class in character (real or imaginary.) There are many opportunities to adjust this lesson to incorporate a review of "if clauses," descriptive adjectives, etc. Have fun and enjoy!
