´First and Last´ is a team vocabulary game for elementary level kids (and above). It is useful for reviewing vocabulary / spelling. Directions: - Split your class into teams (team sizes of 2 to 5 work well) - Give each team a mini whiteboard / marker pen / board eraser (paper and marker pen will do just as well). - Teams work out a word as it is made up from the first or last letters of a sequence of pictures. - The first team to raise their board with the correct answer gets 3 points (I then usually award 2 points to the second, and 1 to the third fastest team - but you can adapt the scoring to suit your needs). - The teacher needs to keep alert during this game to watch out for what order the team boards are raised in - this can get a bit hectic sometimes but it´s fun. It´s quite a levelling activity in that students of all abilities can contribute. It re-uses simple vocabulary in a fun way. - The powerpoint only contains 3 quiz questions. You will need to duplicate the relevant slides and change the pictures to make more questions. I find that about 10 questions will last approximately 20 minutes for a class of 5th and 6th graders - longer for the lower grades. Enjoy.
