Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day
There is a total of 14 slides with animated writing so that the students can practice saying the vocabulary just by looking at the pictures first and then you click and the answer appears on the screen.
I used this presentation for my 1st, 2nd and 6th grade children and they loved it. A fun idea with kids is to take in a small pan and a pancake and let them practice flipping the pancake. I also made and took in some little pancake samples for them to try and this stopped the younger ones wanting to eat the flipping pancake after it had been on the floor, because it will end up on the floor.
I then got them to make a little pancake recipe booklet with the ingredients on one page and the instructions on the other.
I also used it with my class of lower intermediate adults and it was a good revision of kitchen vocab.
With the 6th graders and the adults I also did a speaking exercise with How much and How many questions to ask about the ingredients and then I wrote some detailed instructions for making pancakes on the board in the wrong order and got my students to practice making questions using do you + base verb + complement + before/after +you + base verb + complement? question form to get them to ask about the order of the instructions.
