The Postoffice
Here is the PPT I used to teach post office related vocabulary to my after school class (grade 4 -6). The series lasted three lessons and culminated in the class writing their own letters to family and friends of mine back home. They were extremely motivated when I showed them the writing paper as proof that they’d be writing letters and even more excited when I told them they would receive replies back from the people they wrote to (this took some organization on my part, but it worked out well). Anyway, the PPT consists of the following:
Slides 2 – 19: Vocabulary
Slides 21 – 32: Sentence stacking with verbs
Slides 34 – 36: Useful sentences when visiting the post office
Slides 38 – 40: Ideas to begin and end their letters (these could be more elaborate depending on your level of you students)
Slide 42: This is the order of the actual letter writing class. I was the pretend post office clerk
PS: Please excuse the way I make PPTs… I prefer to have one thing going on at a time but feel free to modify if you prefer to use transitions etc
