British/English Culture - Introductory Lesson
This is a PowerPoint about some of British and English culture, you can of course adapt and modify it as you see fit.
You can use this as a introductory lesson to give the students some starting information about England, Britain and the UK.
If you want, you could make it into more of a listening exercise by handing out a gap-fill sheet afterwards with statements such as, ´The national sport in Britain is.......´(cricket), however, ´The most popular sport in Britain is ......´(football).
p.s. when I get to the accents and dialects part, I normally back track to the map of the UK and Ireland and try to do accents from as many places across the map as I can to show the wide range of accents available (students love to hear you try all the variations, even if they cannot understand them all). Additionally, in the music section you can play some music (change the songs on the list if you want). Finally, in the superstition section, it is good to find out superstitions from the cultures of the students you are teaching to give them comparative examples (e.g. in English the number 13 is unlucky, in Chinese the number 4 is unlucky - I´ll let you research why!).
Have fun!
