Idioms: worksheet for students to fill in after explanation with flash-cards
This worksheet will help students to record what they have learnt about the idiom that has previously been taught.
I normally teach an idiom per day as a starter activity.
Procedure: I first show the idiom flash-card to the students and ask them to brainstorm ideas about the meaning. Then I explain the meaning of the idiom with examples. Afterwards, I ask them to invent their own meaningful examples. They ellicit lots of examples that help the rest of the students memorize the idiom. Finally, they WRITE DOWN THE IDIOM, ITS MEANING AND THEIR OWN EXAMPLE IN THIS WORKSHEET while I hang the flash-cards in our Idioms bulletin board.
This worksheet can be used by students from elementary up to advanced level. Young learners enjoy learning idioms in context!
