BOOM! - sports edition
FOR INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARD
I like to include gameshows as a fun reward to revise vocabulary at the end of a unit. This time it was sports and the gameshow was BOOM! as most of my students knew the premise of the show so I didn´t have to spend much time explaining the rules.
Subsequently I have not included a "rules" slide this time and normally used the first question as an example if needed.
This contains enough questions to easily fill an hour class with time to explain and go over any vocabulary they want/need explaining.
Just in case you don´t know the show, I´ll briefly explain how I ran it with my students.
*organise into teams of about 4 or 5 (you need to have at least 4 because students become eliminated if their bomb explodes)
*quick rules, class rules, ground rules, house rules (I have a group of heavy talkers so a strict 2 strikes and you´re out rule is applied)
*Teams take turns and put forward a tribute
*question is revealed and I give them time to read it and ask any questions they have (although I won´t tell them the answers if it might reveal the solution to the question)
*When the team is ready I reveal the answers and they have 30 seconds to get their nominee to "eliminate" the incorrect answers
*If they´re successful we continue to the next group
*If the bomb explodes on them I write their name on the blackboard
