SPEAKING ACTIVITY: FIXING COMMON MISTAKES (MISUSE OF MAYBE)
First, let me make clear that this is *NOT* only for use in China -- It definitely can be used anywhere. I teach in China, and the most prevalent speaking problem is the misuse and overuse of the word "maybe". After a lot of careful research, I have learned that this is both a cultural issue and a language learning problem. This PPT was designed to address both issues. There´s pictures with a sample A/B conversation that incorrectly (and typically) uses "maybe", then a sample correct A/B conversation is given to introduce and illustrate correct usage of the alternatives. Then, further on, there´s pictures with the incorrect usage A/B conversation and the students must offer correct rephrasing of the answer. There are only a few slides geared directly at China, and these are quickly and easily editable to tailor it to your specific location and needs.
