The Sword in The Stone: Role-play!!!
This is an amazing activity which is about a magic theme. First of all, students get into groups of four with their usual team-mates. Then, they receive a sheet with a description of four characters as well as The Sword in the Stone’s plot. These characters are Merlin (a powerful wizard), Arthur(a future king), Archimedes (Merlin’s magical owl) and Madam Mim (a mean witch). Students have to read the text first in silence. Then they have to invent a two-minute play while respecting the characters and the story’s context. I give them 30 minutes to do so. While they are making up the play, I am moving around them to correct their mistakes and to help them.
After, they have to act their play, which should not last more than 2 minutes. Thanks to this activity, students are going to learn new vocabulary words, expressions and basic cultural knowledge about King Arthur’s story.
