Fun past simple sentence auction
Students, in groups, are given $1000.00 to buy sentences - ss compete, just like a real auction to buy correct or incorrect sentences. The object of the auction is to have the greatest number of points at the end of the auction and points are awarded as follows; correct sentences=2 pts each and incorrect sentences THAT THE SS ARE ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND CORRECT=1point each. FIRST auction all of the sentences in increments of at least $10. After all the sentences have been bought, ask ss to separate their sentences into 2 piles: one of correct sentences and others of incorrect sentences (this avoids the possibility of ss changing their minds after the groups that go before them have their sentences corrected - thereby giving an unfair advantage) THEN the Teacher collects the piles from each group and first sorts through the correct sentences of groupA awarding 2 points for each correct sentence. THEN going through the incorrect sentences and calling on group A to correct them - awarding 1 point for each sentence they are able to correct. Teacher then goes on to group B, C etc...
