JEOPARDY! Review - For Basic/Beginners Level English
Includes a question sheet, an answer sheet, and a blank point table to fill in your own categories and questions.
JEOPARDY! is a famous game show in the U.S. and makes a great classroom activity. Fill out the blanks on the question sheet and the answers accordingly and print for your reference.
Before playing, write the category and point values on the chalkboard and have the class split into groups. Assign a number to each member of each group. (For example if there are four people in a group, one person will be #1, another #2, the next #3, and the last person #4.)
Call out a number and member with that number in each group stand up. (For example, if you call #1, each #1 person in each group should stand up.)
Teacher picks the first category and asks a question. The first student to raise their hand to answer gets a chance. If they take too long to answer or their answer is incorrect, go on to the next fastest person. (If you don´t catch who is the next fastest, you can have them decide the remaining order by rock, paper, scissors.)
The next round the group the answered the first question picks a category and point value. Students should ask by saying, "I would like (insert category) for (insert point value) please.
The group with the most points at the end wins. Usually this game takes 40-50 minutes depending on the class size.
I like to make it harder by not allowing one word answers for some questions for higher level classes; they have to respond in a grammatically correct way to get the points.
