A2+-B1 Practise with present simple, past simple, present perfect, present continuous, future simple & going to 1
Learning the present simple, past simple, present perfect, present continuous, future simple, and "going to" is crucial because they are the most commonly used tenses for everyday communication. Each tense allows speakers to express actions and ideas clearly across different time frames. The present simple is used for routines and facts (I work every day), while the past simple helps describe completed actions (I visited Rome last year). The present perfect connects past actions with the present (I have seen that film), and the present continuous describes ongoing or temporary actions (She is studying now). The future simple is key for predictions or decisions (I will call you later), and "going to" expresses planned future actions (We are going to move next month). Mastering these tenses ensures students can confidently talk about daily activities, past experiences, and future intentions. First, students need to familiarise themselves with the 6 tenses and their use. Then they read the sentences to work out which tense is needed to complete the gap-fill using the infinitive in (). Each tense is used 5 times! Answers on page 2
