Letīs Go to an American Resturant
My Korean students (5th graders) have never been to an American restaurant. So together, we did a fill-in dialogue on the board after I provided the word splash: menu, waitor, host, buser, table & chairs, candles, napkins, glasses, plates, silverware, appetizers, entrees, dessert, order.
This attachment is their "test." I cut out all 25 sentences and mix them up. Each group must put the pieces in order. For some groups, I make the "Host," "Watier," and "You"pieces seperate so students have to match the person to the statement.
THEY LOVE THIS GAME. I show the website of the Cheesecake Factory. They see American food, and pictures of the resturant. It makes them feel like they are on a field trip. Gets them motivated to "produce" dialogue.
