Phonetics Game
I developed this exercise for helping new learners identify phonic sounds for long and short vowels by shape. I have written instructions on the last page. I hope all the shapes are aligned on their respective pages. If not, just click on a shape and move it around. My kids thought this was a puzzle, and loved it. One of my co-teachers suggested it would do well for a Shapes exercise if one labels the shapes on the Master Page. My kids also loved coloring the shapes after they put in the words.
1. The first page is your master for all your words.
2. Photocopy it and then write long and short vowel words all over the copied page, as many as you think each level of student can handle.
3. Photocopy as many pages as you need for your class.
4. You can photocopy pages 2, 3, 4 and one on 5 as many as you need. Pages 2-5 are the set of shapes needed for the exercise. These duplicate the shapes on page 1. (I made one copy, cut out the shapes then pasted them on an A3 or 11x17" paper. That way, I have all the shapes on one page, and only have one handout plus the Words page.)
5. I keep both the words master/original and the large shapes paper in a binder for the other teachers.
