English worksheet: Emphasis and Expression Emphasis and Expression

I find that my students like to speak in a monotone, so I designed a lesson that would get them to speak with a bit more emphasis and expression in their voices. I explained that emphasis on certain words can change the meaning of a sentence: use example of "I am going to the shop", students listen and underline the emphasised word, then practice reading in pairs (empahsised words are: I, AM, GOING, THE) Empahsis also makes things sound more interesting. I gave an example self-introduction with emphasis. Students then filled in their own self-introduction script and circled words they wanted to emphasise. Some performed these withe emphasis! Can make the second part harder if your students are higher level than mine by reducing the amount of script given for the self-intros.
