What a mess !
My pupils always love this activity. Itīs a bit like a very simplified version of "whereīs Wally / Waldo ?". A father is coming back home and the pupils must find the different objects in the picture that need to be tidied up before heīs back...
I use a transparency and an individual copy for each student so that itīs easier for them to follow.
My question is : What are the problems ?
They use sentences like : thereīs/there are... on (the floor/table/bed...), near ..., in (the room).
Before doing this exercise I usually recap the rooms of the house and pretend I want to buy the house so they need to tell me all the rooms there are (so they use there is/are beforehand too).
This is so easy and the pupils donīt realize theyīre working !
