Introduction / Warm-up activity:
1. Write the following on the black board or OHP:
„X something made of metal
„X something cold
„X something which is typical for Japan
„X something which you push
„X something purple
2. Ask students to brainstorm in pairs and write down as many items per category as they can think of. After a few minutes, discuss the results in class.
Main activity:
1. Divide your class into groups of three to four students. Give each group a copy of the game board and a counter per student.
2. Tell your students to look at the game board and check of they understand all the vocabulary. Clear up any confusion concerning vocabulary.
3. Playing the game:
„X Tell each student to place their counter on one of the letters.
„X The aim of the game is to cross the board to reach the same letter again.
„X The youngest player in the group starts by choosing the hexagon which touches the circled letter naming an object which fits the description. Players can only move to an adjoining hexagon when they correctly name an object.
„X Players take turns in playing. They may move in any direction, but may not move to an adjoining hexagon of another player is there. A player misses a turn, he misses a turn.
„X The first player to reach his corresponding letter wins.
„X Repeated answers are not allowed.
4. Monitor the game. Only help if really necessary but work as a time keeper.
