False Friends Memory cards
Students learning English in Germany learn the difference between a literal translation (false friend here) and the correct translation.
Cut cards apart. Mix on a table top. Students match the German word with the correct English translation (black type) and the false friend (red type).
This exercise has been done with first year university students, Masterīs level students and private classes with success.
Time of activity depends on level of students, but at least 15 minutes is needed to introduce the activity, perform the matching and to discuss those interesting/difficult translations.
The words have been taken from several issues of Business Spotlight but the activity is my own.
