Activity to practice past simple and continuous
Divide class in half or groups as you prefer. Half will be the cops and the other half the robbers.
You will need to pre-teach vocabulary such as alibi, suspects, discrepancies. Or change worksheets to simpler vocab.
Practice question formation such as "What were you doing at...?" and answers "I was watching television" etc and encourage full sentence formation. As students get excited they may revert to L1.
Groups should be given 10-15 mins to plan
Robbers - their stories need to match and detail memorised
Cops - Questions decided upon for extracting flaws in the stories.
Pair cops with robbers ideally where they are unable to hear or interfer with other pairs which promotes cheating!
10 mins for interview as necessary.
Cops re-group and decide if they have 5 discrepancies to prove guilt
