Shipwrecked
This is a writing exercise. Part of the story is already written and the students have to complete the rest of the story. For each space there are instructions as to what they have to write (e.g. what happened next?)
The interesting thing about this exercise is that during each space (for each question) you should play a song. You can use any songs in English that you like. Inform the students that the song you play for a space is the ´soundtrack´ of that space. They must find the inspiration for the story in the song. I.e. they can´t have a happy ending if you´re playing a tragic! They don´t need to (shouldn´t) base their ideas no the lyrics, they should base it no the type of music. They have as long as the song lasts to complete the space the song belongs to.
An interesting exercise is to put on ´unexpected´ songs and see how they react. For instance, when the threatening mermen approach you could put on a calypso song. I´ve had some very interesting stories from my students thanks to this!
This exercise has really brought out the best in my students. Hope you enjoy it too.
