Vocabulary Log Definition Template
I made this to give my students some guidance on keeping a vocabulary log. The numbers can be used flexibly but basically I tell them:
1. The word correctly spelled
2-4 the date you entered it
3. word type (n.,adj...)
4. pronunciation notes either in IPA or their own personal method of remembering how to say the word
5. A dictionary definition or in their own words
6. A sentence from the location where they first saw the word (for example if they first saw the unfamilliar word on a web page they would write the sentence that contained the word and possibly a reference for that word)
7. A sentence from the student made personal if possible
8. other forms of the word
9. synonyms and antonyms
10 and 11. Notes about the word or cross references to other entries.
12. a picture of the word or something that represents the word to the students.
below #12 is a place to write the word in the students first language (placed far from the original word to keep them from drawing attention to the mother language first.)
These are flexible of course and the teacher can adapt as necessary. I also have a list template and a picture template which I will upload later so look for them.
