2nd Conditional If then chain
This is very simple but the students really love it! It´s based on an exercise in New Cutting Edge´s Pre-Intermediate Module 15. Put the students in rows. Explain that the idea is to change the "main (then) clause" into an "if clause". The first if clause is furnished, change or add at will! The first student in the row, writes the main clause then passes it to the student behind/next to them. That student has to change the main clause into an if clause, then passes it to the next student who writes a new main clause and so on. Make sure to check/correct at the very beginning of the process. No matter how many times you explain, some won´t get it until they do it once or twice. This is the best way to reinforce an otherwise dull grammar lesson. This also leads into an excellent speaking exercise using the 2nd conditional to talk about dreams with no prompts encouraging follow up questions like, "How WOULD you protect the environment.", etc. Real production, OMG!
