Game - Expressions and Idioms
Notes to teachers:
• Make sure you have one set of cards per group of Sts.
• Split up the class into small groups. There should be a desk or table for Sts to place their cards on.
• Sts place sentence cards face down on the desk and distribute word cards evenly amongst the group members.
• Sts take turns reading the sentence cards.
• The St who has the corresponding word card has to say the sentence again replacing the explanation with the word / expression on his/her card. (e.g. word card: scar someone for life; sentence card: She was deeply affected by the incident and never got over it; expected answer: The incident scarred her for life. )
• If he/she does so successfully, he/she can keep the sentence card. If not, the sentence card goes to the bottom of the pile and the word card is left face up on the table for any other St to use it later on.
• The winner is the St who has the most pairs of cards.
Hope your students enjoy it as well.
Cheers.
