Minimal Pairs with "r and l" and "f and p."
This is a pronunciation and listening activity for all ages. The teacher and students first do phonic practice for the minimal pairs (in this case "l and r" and "f and p" which are difficult sounds for East Asian students.) Next the students write a 6-10 digit number. They then convert the number to words using one of the charts at the top. For example, "123" becomes "ball-bar-lip" for the "l and r" minimal pair chart. The student then reads his "word number" to his partner. The partner must listen and use the chart to change the "word number" back to digits. My students really enjoy this activity.
