grammar auction - the passive voice
- I divided the pupils in groups (4 or 5 pupils in each group).
- I gave each group an enveloppe with 1000 fake dollar-bills I found on the Internet ( 9x$100, 1x$50, 1x$20 and 3x$10).
- They have to buy the correct sentences (each one costs $100) and then, give me the money spent.
- We correct: I just ask them which sentences are correct and which are false. If they bought a false sentence, they give me $10. If they forgot to buy a correct sentence, they also give me $10. The names and sums of each group are written on the board.
- Then, they must correct the sentences that were false. For each sentence they corrected well, I give them $100.
- The group with the biggest sum wins.
My pupils really liked this activity and they enjoyed having dollars in their hands (even if they were fake). They were really motivated to win the game.
