Scattergories game
This is a useful game to get students excited about producing vocabulary. I allow them to use whatever they have available to find words - itīs refreshing to see them hunting through their schoolbooks for ideas. Also it gives them a good chance to practise classroom English such as "How do you spell ____"?
For lower level classes I award 1 point for every word.
For higher level, I ask each team to only write 1 word in each space. If more than one team produces the same word, I award them 1 point. If a team produces a unique word, they get 2 points.
It takes around 5 minutes to comprehensively check answers after each round and award points. In a 45 minute class there should be time for 3 or 4 rounds.
