Life in Victorian Britain - Worksheet
This excellent documentary on Victorian Britain gives good insight into all aspects of life in 19th century Britain. The vocabulary load is high, but advanced students find it gripping. The most notable sections (which can be used in isolation) of this 50-minute film are Rural and Urban Poverty, Workhouses, and Innovation and Invention). (I showed 1 or 2 sections each lesson.)
A companion worksheet uploaded at the same time includes all the literary passages quoted in this documentary, including passages from Charles Dickens’ novels. (I also showed the "Please, sir, I want some more" clip from the film "Oliver Twist" in conjunction with the section on Workhouses.)
If you would like a crossword puzzle of the more important vocabulary from this worksheet in .pdf format to use after studying the film, send me a private message.
I used the fonts Englische Schreibschrift for the titles and Garamond for the text. The DVD is available from Amazon UK.
