Topic sentences for lively group discussions
I print these out on coloured paper, cut them out and put into a brown paper bag. I put the the class into small groups and they have to discuss the topic, using appropriate phrases for expressing opinions: Excuse me, may I interrupt, in my opinion, etc. This activity is precede by listening exercises where speakers are using the phrases. They must identify them and demonstrate how they are used.
