Tense Lax Vowel Dominoes
This is a game to help students practice tense/lax vowel sounds. After teaching Ss how to make the sounds, divide class into groups of 3 - 5. Give each group one set of dominoes (you will have to cut the paper in half and then into strips (so each strip has two words next to each other, e.g. wait ---- wet; bill ---- veal)like real dominoes. Students divide the cards evenly among the players. Then, students must place the cards so that the sounds match, e.g. wait ---- wet; second ---- sick; mitt ----- meat, etc. The first person to use all their cards is the winner.
N.B. Remind Ss to say the words out loud as they put the cards down.
