School of Rock - Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday
A fill in the blanks listening exercise to Billie Holliday´s version of Strange Fruit - about racism in the American South - which is followed by comprehension and discussion questions. Since it includes the graphic picture that inspired the song, lesson is not ideal for young learners, but it does touch on social issues of racism, civil rights, discrimination, and stereotypes. I find it best to keep the sheets separate (or keep them from turning the paper over) and have them guess what the song is about before they see the picture.
