The Word Sort is a great way to introduce letter concepts to students. Providing pictures clears any doubt that a student may have of their understanding of the word. Using each letters´ variation helps to clarify the sounds and ways that the letter is used, S v/s C, S v/s Sh, Sh v/s Ch. Having a theme allows children to have fun and get involved while provding a low stress environment. Who doesn´t love to learn and write about the beach? I found it more beneficial for students to come to the board and writing out the brainstorming activity and handle the manipulatives, it allowed them to be more involved in the assignment and kept them better engaged from start to finish.
