My JHS 3rd years are studying food partitives (e.g., a pound of meat, a gallon of milk, etc.). This listening activity is intended to bring a cultural element into this otherwise boring chapter. First, students predict the prices of 5 American supermarket items. Then, they listen to you read a supermarket announcement (script on page 2) to check their answers. Good way to lead into a discussion comparing food prices in the U.S. and home country! (FYI, "sale prices" in script are based on real prices from the Safeway website, which are also included, below the script.)
