This historical fact game has been designed in order to allow students to practice using the past perfect tense. The game consists of a dial with dates from the 20th century and historical fact cards. In small groups the students would take it in turn to take a fact card and spin the arrow on the dial. The student would then produce sentences in the following form:
“By 1970 the 1st man had been to the moon.” OR
“By 1910 the 1st man hadn’t been to the moon.”
Other students would check that the sentence formed was correct: both grammatically and historically (the correct date that particular events occurred can be checked with the date printed on the reverse of the card). Students receive a point if they form the sentence correctly.
