Endangered Animal Factfind Worksheets
These A3 worksheets are designed to be used with the Endangered Animal profiles on ESL Printables given at: http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=305101&modo=comment#comments.
The idea of this activity was to give my Elementary Science class (ESL 4) an exercise in critical thinking that maximized the use of thinking, reading, writing and speaking. Animals included are the Killer Whale (Orca), Snow Leopard, Polar Bear, Formosan Black Bear, Formosan Sika Deer, Giant Panda, Formosan Rock Monkey, and the Green Turtle
First download the Endangered Animal Profiles at the link above.
1. In your the first class, begin by discussing and reading all about endangerd animals with your kids.
2. In the second lesson, the teacher should pin up alleight profiles of endangered animals around the classroom (preferably before your students arrive). 3. In class, students are paired off and given an empty A3 profile of an animal on the wall (downloadable at: ). 4. A mock up of the killer whale is given to show students the kind of information they need to glean from the profiles. 5. Give your class a time limit and have them race each other to complete their activity sheets before the other pairs in class. You might even want to hand out a small prize for the best work completed. 6. At least ten minutes should be saved at the end of the lesson for each pair to share some of the most important things they learned about each animal, using new vocabulary learnt when possible. 7. Students will push themselves in a time limit to think of ways that we can help today. Teacher will collect in the completed profiles at the end of class, mark and award a small prize to the best two.
