Scary story mixup
4 Urban legends/Ghost stories (please check for typos).
Cut each paragraph into strips and mix them up and secure with a paper clip (fairly time intensive). Put students in pairs or threes and give each group the stories. They must sort and separate the 4 stories and put them in the correct order. I usually give candy of some sort to the group that finishes correctly first. Then I read the stories to them in the following order: The Hook Man (urban legend), Aren´t You Glad You Didn´t Turn On The Lights (urban legend), Bloody Mary (popular ghost story), Hairy Toe (ghost story). For the last one I get them involved. They are the voice of the monster and the stomp or bang on the desk everytime I say "stomp(bang)-stomp(bang)-stomping sound(bang bang)" I do this with University students and they enjoy it. With reading it takes about an hour.
Optional activity (if time allows): The letters on the side of each strip have scrambled Halloween related vocabulary broken down by story. If they have the story sorted correctly they have all the letters needed to make the following words: Haunted, Ghosts, Cemetery, Grave (the first paragraph of each story is the first letter of the corresponding word)
