This is a list of the most frequent words in the English language. The sources of the words are the General Service List (West, 1953), and the Academic Word List (Cox, 2000). Studies show that these words make up between 85 and 95 percent of written and spoken English. These are probably the most important words for your students to learn and for teachers to teach their students.
