Past and Present Tenses - Timelines and Examples Past and Present Tenses - Timelines and Examples

This handout shows simple examples of past and present verb tenses, along with timelines to illustrate their use. I know not everyone is a fan of using timelines in the classroom, especially with beginners, but -- with adequate explanation -- I find them a very effective way to illustrate how tenses differ. I developed this tool for use along with a companion worksheet, which you can also download here. We use timelines on the board all the time; this gives students something they can keep and refer to.
