English worksheet: Notable People Notable People

Here is an exercise to generate a lot of discussion. Have the class brainstorm a list of famous people who have died since they were born (statesmen, criminals, athletes, musicians, business men and women, writers, scientists, etc.). Then ask them to choose from the list -- a. the FIVE people who had the greatest influence on our lives and the way we live (whether for good or not). b. the THREE people who have made the greatest contribution to IMPROVING the quality of our lives. c. Which TWO people from the list below would you most like to have met? Why? Then in groups of about 4, they discuss their choices, asking questions, etc. As a follow-up, you could ask them to write about the 2 people they would have most like to have met and why. (Good practice for the 3rd conditional!)
