Lance Armstrong - Survivor (present perfect vs. past simple)
This work-sheet tells the inspiring life-story of cyclist Lance Armstrong, who survived testicular cancer to win 7 Tours de France. The work sheet will help students to reinforce their understanding of when to use the present perfect or the past simple, (i.e. past events with current relevance vs. simple statements of past events). Note: Remember that Lance Armstrong is still cycling. So some of the questions have options which are wrong only because they don´t fit this context, for example "he has won..." is correct, not "he won..." ; because he might win the Tour de France again in the future. These potentially tricky questions are a good opportunity to highlight this aspect of the present perfect. Good luck and have fun... Joel.
