Abstract Role Play
"I believe that the *imaginary* is stronger than *science*, that *myth* is more convincing than *history*; that *dreams* are more powerful than *facts*; that *hope* has always triumphed over *experience*; that *life* is the only remedy to *worry*, and that *love* is stronger than *death*."
In this highly unusual exercise (which works very well with the right groups!), students have to work together to find words missing (the words between asterisks) from the above quotation. Then each student is given a card with one of the words, and the students have to role play that concept, for example, "I am History. I am a record of the past and guide to the future." The full lesson plan is followed by the worksheets on the following pages.
