I noticed that my students were having difficulty summarizing work into their own words so I created this worksheet to go with a "torn book" activity. First I tore apart an early level chapter book "about a 2.5 ZPD" and split the kids into groups of 2-3. I gave each group a chapter and had them read and summarize their chapter together. Then we read all their summaries in order. Once they got into it the kids had a great time and asked if we could do it again sometime. Their summarization skills have improved since doing this exercise a couple times with different books.
