These immigrant identity cards are used in conjunction with the book "If Your Name Was Changed at Ellis Island." Students are given a card. This is their identity for the duration of your unit. You can simulate the immigrant experience by having students journal about their reasons for leaving their home country, about their journey, about their hopes and dreams, and about their arrival in the U.S.
