Just a minute!
This is my BE adaptation of a popular classroom game called "Just a minute!"(the template is taken from E. Claireīs book "ESL Teacherīs activities kit") All you need to do is to copy sheets of word cards and cut them apart, you might consider copying them on a thick card or laminating them for a longer life :)
Each student is given a card, he is allowed some time to read their words but not show to each other. If there are any questions about pronunciation or meaning of a word, students may consult a dictionary or the teacher.
Each player is given a certain amount of time (in this case 1 min), but it entirely depends on the studentsī level of English and how good their conversational skills are, you may consider prolonging the time limit or omitting it completely.
The first player reads out the title of category on his card and tries to get the other students to get as many words as he can on his card in just 1 minute. The player may tell about each word, but not say the world itself. No pointing to the objects or using his hands is allowed! He may describe the word, tell what itīs used for, what its opposite is etc.
The game can be easily adjusted to the level of your students or to the topics of your lessons and it is a great time filler if you end up with spare 10 minutes at the end of the lesson!
Have fun!:)
