Jobs Concentration -- Whole Class Activity
Instructions:
1. Print this on a transparency. Cover each word with a post-it, leaving the numbers visible.
2. Divide the class into teams. Teams compete against one another.
3. Have each group assign a group speaker. (It is important that there be only one person speaking for each group.) Remind students that only their representative may speak for the group. If any other person answers, the group loses its turn!
4. Begin by telling the students how the game is played. Then uncover 2 squares to see if the words match. Cover them back to begin the game.
Rules:
1. Each team will select two numbers at random to match. The other teams will try to remember the vocabulary uncovered.
2. This is a memory game, so writing anything down is prohibited!
3. If no match is made, the next team selects.
4. The first time a match is made, give that team a point. Keep the words uncovered. Allow them to uncover 2 more numbers until they fail to make a match.
5. To allow more playing time, I usually go on to the next team even if a match has been made. Continue until all the squares have been uncovered.
6. The team with the most matches at the end wins the game. I reward them with stickers, candy, or pencils.
This is a great vocabulary review. You´ll be surprised at the students who are really good at this! They´re usually not the ones who excel in regular classroom activities.
You can use this same format for a variety of topics.
