Mystery Objects
This is a simple variant on the mystery objects game. Take a selection of small objects, fruit and so on, try to make sure that you include as wide a variety of smells, textures, shapes etc as possible. Put these into the bag.
Usually I start off by eliciting the five senses and then brainstorming adjectives which describe sensory experience. I then take 15-20 new adjectives written on cut up bits of paper. In small groups the sts have to put them into categories of smell, sound etc and figure out the meanings- with monolingual dictionaries if you like.
I then move onto playing the game- sts are blindfolded and have to pick out an object from the bag and describe it using 5 senses.. and then guess whgat it is. This is always a lot of fun! Finally I move onto using this worksheet- itīs pretty self-explanatory and you could extend it in lots of ways.
