							Shopping with Adverbs and Expressions of Frequency
							This worksheet can be used as part of a lesson on shopping and adverbs/ expressions of frequency.
Materials: Small cards with pictures of everyday objects on them. I cut out my pictures of MP3 players, laptops, soft drinks, cereal etc from weekly flyers that come in the mail.
Lesson Plan:
Warm Up: In pairs, tudents discuss the following question.
What do you usually buy your (sibling/ parent/ teacher/ partner etc.) as a present on special occassions and why?
Study: Teacher teaches adverbs of frequency and other expressions and elicits their position in a sentence.
         -------------------------------------------------->
Adverbs: always usually/often sometimes rarely/ selcom never
Expressions: everyday, every second day, once a week, a couple of times a week, a few times a week etc.
Adverbs usually go before the main verb and Expressions usually go at the end of the sentence.
Students do Exercise A on the worksheet with their own opinions and compare with a partner. Teacher then reads out the correct answer (either individual sentence or as part of a story on shopping) and students listen and check their answers.
Free Talk: Small groups. The picture cards are face down on the table. Each student turns over a card and makes a true sentence using the object on the card with an adverb or expression of frequency.
For example: Cereal. I never used to eat cereal in Korea but in Canada I eat cereal everyday.
Other students are encouraged to ask follow up questions. Then, the next students turns over a card and talks about the next object.
Good Luck!
